Mentoring services and capacity building

One of the primary focuses of HKIDB is to build the capacity of parents, caregivers, special educators from partner organizations (including those in certain Southeast Asian countries), and para-medical professionals, among others. Our goal is to support them in understanding the specific needs of children and young adults with Multiple Disabilities including Deafblindness.

We assist them in developing an understanding of Individualized Educational Programs (IEPs) and the skills necessary to create such programs. Additionally, we provide insights into a wide range of teaching strategies suitable for working with children with deafblindness/MDVI in various settings and to develop an understanding of basic curriculum and adaptations and instructional strategies required to teach children with Multiple Disabilities including Deafblindness.

Placing these individuals in our model school enhances their knowledge in planning processes, including selecting appropriate instructional objectives in various skill areas such as self-help, motor, language and communication, cognitive development, mobility, and artistic activities. We also focus on the use of suitable teaching techniques and aids and creating a conducive learning environment to optimize training.

Moreover, our experienced professionals at HKIDB act as mentors for organizations catering to children and young adults with Multiple Disabilities including Deafblindness. In their mentorship role, they guide educators in effective partnership with families, determining family needs, and intervening appropriately with infants and young children across different settings. Understanding the importance of inclusion is also an integral part of their mentorship.
